Jassy Davis shares with us her favourite winter cocktail
from her very successful book "Gin made me do it".
Coriander & Ginger Gimlet
‘Coriander & ginger gimlet in the book is a fresh kind of wintry cocktail. I always associate ginger with winter because coughs and colds mean hot ginger, lemon & honey. This cocktail has a hit of warming ginger, with citrus sharpness from lime & coriander seeds. I think, on a grey day, a sharp & spicy ice cold glass of gin cocktail like this would help chase the clouds away. No guaranteed to cure the common cold though’
Ingredients
4 fresh coriander sprigs
½ tsp coriander seeds
1 slice of fresh ginger
60ml London dry gin
45ml freshly squeezed lime juice
8ml simple sugar syrup
A maraschino cherry, to garnish
Method
Put the fresh coriander, coriander seeds and ginger in a cocktail shaker and use a muddler, pestle or the end of a wooden spoon to bash them together until the coriander is bruised and wilted. Pour in the gin, lime juice and simple syrup. Add ice and shake together well, then double strain into a chilled martini or gin glass. Drop in a cherry to serve.
